Update on Progress – October 2016

If you have driven down Champion Drive recently, you probably have noticed changes starting to happen. Volunteers and staff have been hard at work on the new property. The property was officially purchased on April 18th thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, $30,000 was raised in a period of about 30 days.

Since purchasing the building, we have been working with officials from the Town, County & State to ensure our renovation plans meet all building and flood code requirements. This is a lengthy process but the support from these agencies has been tremendous. We have contractors inspecting the building and providing us with quotes and plans for electrical, plumbing etc.

FOOD BOX DISTRIBUTION AT THE NEW LOCATION

In this process, we determined that it was possible to go ahead and move our Food Box Distribution over to the new building starting June 28th. Only a few issues needed to be addressed to bring the building up to code and make distribution viable. With a lot of work from many volunteers, this has been accomplished. We do need folding or stackable chairs and large tables. Any donations of those items or monies to purchase would be greatly appreciated.  Distribution will remain at the new location during renovations. Distribution days are the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 10am – 12pm.

MOVING FORWARD ON RENOVATION PLANS

The new building design has been determined. Our kitchen and dining space will be nearly twice the size it is now. Request for bids will start going out within the next month. The entire project will be completed in 2 phases. This is due to spending restrictions with being in a flood plain. The first phase will be dining room, kitchen, bathrooms, and storage/pantry areas. The second phase will be the classrooms, office space, and work to the building’s façade and outer areas. Total cost will be approximately $200,000 with the first Phase being around $90,000.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Each day we are asking, “how’s the new building coming?” We are ready to go but need the funds for the renovations. Most folks do not like to talk about money, but that is the one factor that is holding us back. We ask that everyone please pray about it and consider making a donation. Every dollar counts! So if you are able to donate $1 or $100,000…. we truly appreciate it. You can click on the Donate button at the top or right side of the page and designate your donation in the comments.
